Text Box: The YES Teams and Their Missions

2007-08 YES Team

The team members were Brooke Montpetit, Joey Schimerowski, Austin Roesslein, Seth Nelson, Elliott Eckhoff, Douglas Fortney, Jena Gales, Marten Thompson, Chase Austvold, Kaitlyn Wolbeck, & Charity Bengtson. This team examined the building for major energy losses, researched the best materials to fix the problem and presented their findings to the Crow River Players board. The board approved their projects and asked them to help with the fundraising. To our delight they raised $18,600 for the exterior insulation, new roof and CFL lights. Without their involvement these projects would still be in the planning stages. Our summer energy bills have been cut in half. We haven’t tested the Minnesota winter yet, but we know we will have significant savings.

2008-09 YES Team

Brady Schmitz, Joseph Dreier, Corbin Schwartz, Samantha Lanzrath, Danielle Nichols, Hannah Stehn, Andrew McDonnell, Marissa Friedrich, Lauren Dietz, Miranda Iverslie, & Spencer Mast made up this team. Their focus was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Buy Locally. Energy conservation and education are missions the YES team and the Crow River Players share. The team prepared an educational demonstration that they presented at our major productions. Then served concessions consisting of locally grown products served in compostable containers. Under their direction the theatre began using only post-consumer paper products, and recycling beverage containers. Education and instituting change was this team’s main focus, and they made quite and impact on the community. They designated some of their grant money toward our roof project and additional funds were set aside for the future solar energy project.
Text Box: Over the last few years, the Crow River Players and the New London-Spicer YES team have formed a partnership to make the Little Theatre a more energy efficient building. YES [Youth Energy Summit] is a program offered to gifted eighth graders at NL-S schools. Under the guidance of Teresa Copley, NL-S teacher, and Kay Slama, the advisor, these students have initiated many energy saving projects and reduce/recycle projects for the Little Theatre. The process is on-going. Next we are looking at alternative energy sources, solar or wind, to further reduce our energy consumption. LED stage lighting is another area we are researching. Our mission is to continue our move to a GREENER building and decrease our carbon imprint.
